In this study, we investigate the alkaline transition by complementary optical spectroscopic techniques. The contemporary use of absorption, fluorescence, dynamic light scattering, and resonance raman spectroscopy allows us to demonstrate that the alkaline transition induces a reorganization of the protein and that the overall size of umc increases, but protein aggregation does not occur.

Despite performance improvements of organic photovoltaics, the mechanism of photoinduced electron–hole separation at organic donor–acceptor interfaces remains poorly understood. Inconclusive experimental and theoretical results have produced contradictory models for electron–hole separation in which the role of interfacial charge-transfer (ct) states is unclear, with one model.

X-ray absorption spectroscopy was used to probe the chemical and structural environment of vanadium in coal.
For each project, a sample set was prepared through collaboration with outside institutions, and a suite of spectroscopy techniques was employed to answer specific questions about the system. These techniques enabled the investigation of the chemical and electronic structure of the materials, both at the surface and towards the bulk.
X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy has been used to investigate a range of manganese oxide compounds and the initial stages of oxidation of manganese metal. It is shown that the mn 2p 3/2 binding energy, the extent of multiplet splitting of the 3s level, and the o is mn 2p 3/2 signal intensity ratio vary systematically between the different oxides. This information is used to identify oxide species present on the surface of manganese films during oxidation.

Uv spectroscopy was employed to understand the possible interaction between ascorbic acid (aa) and sodium benzoate (sb). The absorbance of each of the preservatives was taken singly (285 and 291nm for sb and aa, respectively) and the spectrum of a common drink that contained the two preservatives was recorded. Then the interaction of aa with sb was monitored by varying the concentration of aa in sb, reaction temperature and exposure to sunlight.
The structure of the proton-bound lysine dimer has been investigated by infrared multiple photon dissociation (irmpd) spectroscopy and electronic structure calculations. The structures of different possible isomers of the proton-bound lysine dimer have been optimized at the b3lyp/6-31 + g(d) level of theory and ir spectra calculated using the same computational method.

The centaurs are a peculiar class of objects with chaotic orbits which semimajor axes fall between those of jupiter and neptune. It is now believed that they could represent a link between trans neptunian objects and short-period comets. To investigate the nature of these particular objects, we have performed optical spectroscopic observations of 5 centaurs.

The reduction of automotive exhaust emissions has been one of the hottest topics in catalysis community since 1970s. Thanks to the development of three-way catalysts, main auto-exhaust pollutants, such as carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides and unburned hydrocarbons, can be removed simultaneously. Nowadays, diesel engines and lean-engines become more and more popular due to their high fuel.

The cloud model employed in the analysis of chromospheric contrast profiles is subject to two criticisms. The source function in the cloud may not be varied independently of the doppler width in the case of hα and the radiative coupling between the cloud and the underlying atmosphere cannot be ignored. These criticisms are investigated quantitatively with two simple extreme models.
