While significant computational advantages are provided by this method, the modal parameters of the combined system are not explicitly calculated. Hence, a method is needed to allow the a priori determination of the substructure damping levels such that the synthesized system damping is within user-prescribed bounds. This thesis focuses on the development of such a method.
